I am just curious because I always see negative things on here about being a CNA in a nursing home. I am in a CNA program right now and I love it. We just finished our 3rd week on the floor and I think it is great. But every time I tell someone what I am doing they always react negatively, like it is not a good choice for employment.
So I was just wondering if I am one of the only ones that really likes the work or if I just only come across the people that didn’t like it?

Don’t worry about other people’s opinions about it. If you love it, I think that’s GREAT!! And that’s all that matters. And if you love it, you will definitely do a good job at it. Congratulations!!
NO I am 19 and have been a CNA for almost a year in a nursing home and I HATE IT. I have 12 patient per 8 hour shift. It’s a lot of work. Bathing, lifting, feeding, making beds, assisting with catheters, draining catheters, dealing with disgusting smells urine, vomit, feces, dealing with difficult patients. When I took the training I was expecting this but not 12 patients per shift and being treated like crap. The RN’s are so lazy they sit on their butt at the nursing station and do non thing. When I took the training classes I was told if a patient is found laying on the floor for example to call the RN. This happened to me once and she said she was busy and told me to lit the patient because he was a level 1(total independent) but still. CNA’a are underpaid i don’t care that they do not need much education to become a cna but it should be based on the work we do. We work our behinds off I really care about the patients. Us CNA’s have direct contact with the residents and I love that. But the RN’s and some LPN’s seem to only care about a paycheck and that pisses me off. We do all the work for the least pay. At my agency CNA 15, LPN 30, RN, 45. If I had to choose all over I would have been a medical assistant. You are more respected and not treated like crap and it’s about 5 more that a CNA. I can not see how you enjoy it so far but W/E
