I take my salvation and relationship with God seriously. On the other hand I noticed when I try to joke (very clean mind you) around in general, the others are very very serious. I hope this does not mean that I am a carnal Christian because I don’t think I am but lately everyone is sooo serious. For example, we hold services in a nursing home twice a month. Yesterday we started singing Christmas carols. We often asked if anyone has a request for a specific song. One guy requested Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer. So we sang it. But the person leading the service really didn’t care for it, I could tell by the expression on her face. All the people there responded well and seemed to enjoy singing it. So my question is, why so serious. We got in the Christmas message in as well as other Christmas carols..

Humor is a sin.
Well considering Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is a secular Christmas song I can see why some might not like it too much, I mean there is nothing intrinsically evil, but in a church setting it’s not appropriate.
For the same reason some people of any religion or nationality don’t seem to have a sense of humor – it is just part of their personality.
some people are bound to tradition and many of them believe that if you “have fun” while worshiping then you are sinning (not my belief at all)
suggestion: search your belief out and find somewhere to go that believes at least similar it can be very boring to sit in a service where nothing happens and no one smiles
If I believed in a god that caused world flooding, fires, turning people into a sack of salt, killing little kids and their mommies….i’d be pretty serious about not pissing the bi-polar guy off.
I guess that’s what it’s like in Heaven too? I won’t be there?
It’s not a lack of sense of humor that caused the person leading the service to not like it. It’s just a taste in preference.
For example, if you sang one song (not Christmas carols) on the radio to me, I might like it. But if you play, say, Kanye West’s “Heartless,” I’d be disgusted. It’s just a musical preference.
Ask Ken Davis!! He’s a great Christian Comedian!!
incorporating secular ideals into a ministry about jesus is not a good ideal.
christmas is about jesus and his birth not about santa and his reindeer
its not humor when it mocks god or brings in secular beliefs which are not the truth
There are a fair amount of grinches in any population group. Christians are redeemed humans, but we are stuck with our personalities, for the most part.
I think when some people get old, they forget they were ever kids. And other old people become kids again.
Some people, in general, don’t have much of a sense of humor (not just Christians). We all have different styles, some people are funny and some aren’t. Some things offend some people and not others. We’re all individuals (thank God). FYI, we sang “White Christmas” in church last Sunday and people loved it. We’ve even done some funky blues stuff and Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven” because they were appropriate to the message that day. Life is special and created by God to be enjoyed, and I personally think God would love for us all to lighten up and enjoy living life engulfed in His love and overjoyed to be there. How can you be grumpy with all that going for you?
Don’t worry about it; just LAUGH it off!
Well, I try to be a pretty good christian. I am a senior in high school, but my bf says I have to humor of a freshman boy. It just depends on the person. Religion is just religion, and God has humor too, just go to Wal-Mart and look at all the people.
If your brain had been so thoroughly washed as theirs, you wouldn’t have a sense of humor either.
