We all are made to study/learn the history of nurses during theory. I have tons of respect for Florence Nightingale and the first structured classes for nursing schools but this is 2011 so why continue to make the new nurses don the dresses/caps if they are now obsolete? It’s not like we are using sterile, metal bedpans or the glass, reusable syringes now so why keep the old fashioned look?

Same as a cap and gown for any graduation. Don’t like it then don’t attend
Its a tradition and many people kinda like it. Its the same with many traditions that are still in place-obsolete but still around. I think you are getting more worked up about it than is really necessary.
Not every college does that still. It is a choice I think. Especially if male students are graduating they wont force and cant force anyone to wear a dress and cap.
