Is there a ‘staff’ that reads the questions then makes decisions on their legitimacy? What kind of questions are only considered OK in the Seniors section? Questions about social security, nursing homes, health care, what? Is the use of humor improper?

I think staff checks the questions but as far as i know you can post anything as long as it isn’t inappropite.
computer and word specific for a red flag…
then the eyes be upon it…
It looks to me like they kind of ignore us seniors.. Have been violated on other sites for “chatting” but looks like they leave us alone mostly. Wish I knew a site I could go to to just talk to all of you on a chat basis.
Very good question considering I just got a violation notice. I am guessing that anyone can report anyone just by clicking on the “Report” button. I also don’t think there is a ‘staff’ that actually read the questions or the answers, for that matter. See my violation notice below.
Yahoo has programmed this web site , not this category, for certain key words that trigger an automatic violation, i.e., cuss words, slang nasty words.
Read the guidelines if your not sure. This is not a chat room. We’ve all received (or most of us anyway) violations that are ridiculous.
People we refer to as “trolls” falsely report people just for fun. Yahoo was supposed to monitor false reporting, so far, hasn’t made a difference.
I think the people who use Yahoo Answers are the ones who do the reporting, then the Yahoo staff decide if it is a violation or not. So far as I know there are no restrictions on the type of questions or topics that can be asked in the Senior Citizen category. Humor is a good topic for a question. I love some of the jokes that are shared.
I have noticed people get complaints when the topic of a question is politics or religion. As far as I’m concerned folks can ask questions about any subject. I think most of us are wise enough to realize when a question is posted in order to make trouble. I pass those by and go on to the next one.
I am going to answer your second question first.
The Senior Section Is The Best….
We can and do get away with asking every question you can think of in this section of Yahoo….In seniors you can ask questions on:
History ( most of the time it is our own , we were there lol)
Philosophy
Travel Beauty Tips
Woman’s Health ( Men’s Health)
Family and Relationship
We have a joke section
Books and Authors
Movies
Music
Recipes
Gays
Law
Religion
News
Fiances
****I got directions when my son got lost.( lots of kind words that helped me stay calm)*****We have great people here…*******
Computers and the Internet
As, you see The Senior Section is the best Section!!
IMHO
Now to answer your first question.
Any question or answer can get reported by another person by hitting the report button.
You can receive a Violation .
You can ask for it to be reinstated
If the question was written in the form of a question you can will have it reinstated.
Next question…Who reports “V” anyone who wants too.
Do, they read the “V” ?
**Wooley Boole again***…Has explained how the website works with Key words…..That is why if you were not cussing and you have a few question marks in your question.. You should ask to have it reinstated…
I dont think they have any Humour…very sad!
All it takes is for you to be reported twice. It’s not looked into, it just an automatic delete and you receive an automatic email notifying you. I spend a lot of time in Politics and I get a lot of violations. I’m guessing they’re from people who don’t agree with my politics because I always follow the rules.
I think you can ask about any subject as long as it’s not offensive or vulgar.
ANYTHING is good in Seniors!
Trolls go through sections and reads and reports. It is actually encouraged by Y/A. Go figure.
I report spam. That is the only ones I report. So far, three in seniors. And as a Senior, I feel it is my duty to protect the site from people trying to take advantage of us by sending us on to websites that may contain viruses, or even worse, pushy salespeople!
I think the humor is great. We have two contributors in Seniors that keep my whole family in stitches.
From what I understand, those who feel a question is not within the Community Guidelines, report said question & Yahoo reviews the question. If they feel a violation has been committed, they in turn delete the question, & the questioner receives a Violation e-mail from Yahoo. Read the Community Guidelines & you will see what is proper to ask & what isn’t. They say it takes two people to report a question, before Yahoo checks into it. Reporting questioners/answerers is not my style but many people do report others. Humor is not improper here, but those who have no sense of humor will sometimes be the first to report someone who does have a sense of humor. I enjoy your questions & your sense of humor.
I don’t think any staff reads the questions and answers.
I think it’s all based on ‘reporting’.
My violation came from the ‘here’ at the senior section.
Ok, I know I,m in the wrong section when I had my qu. removed, I just like to make friends everywhere and some people think they are police of yahoo and want to ban everyone. I like old people thats why I’ve come for a visit but obviously some old people dont want to be liked, give me a thumbs up if you like young people in your section, it wont matter anyway I know there are some nice people here.
Reporting is done solely by users. If you ask a question that somebody doesn’t agree with then it will go unfortunately. I personally don’t report any questions or answers unless they are obviously spam. I can tolerate almost anything as long as it isn’t spam.
no staff –it is anyone you doesn’t like the question or answer and forget appealing it will not be over turned!!!
Have never reported a voilation. If I see something that offends me I just move on. I believe that other members report and I cant see the reason as what good does it do.Humour is great bad language is not. Also some of the questions you have to be a genius to work out what they are saying as they dont seem to speak English.
I asked a question similar to yours. It was reported. I received a violation notice and appealed it. My appeal was denied twice because Yahoo says that this question is “chatting.” Others have won their appeals for questions of this type. It’s completely random as far as I’m concerned. No rhyme or reason. I’m guessing that like everything else, the Yahoo police are sitting in a big room in Indonesia, and that most don’t speak English very well.
“ALL” not most, but “ALL” of my violations have been from this section. When that happens, I just quit participating until whomever thinks I’m out for them or whatever goes away. Some folks had a “troll” campaign going on a couple months ago and somehow some folks targeted me. So, I just enjoyed what I could in this forum and didn’t respond one way or the other … really quite boring actually, but I do like what most folks here have to say and I have a habit of getting personally attached to some of our folks here and their personal situations (the only way to “keep in touch” was to watch and wait until the heat was off me). I don’t know who reports whom for what, some folks claim to have an incite none of the rest of us have and they seem to have a personal mission in life to “protect and defend” us or something. Whatever the reason, I’ll be glad when they all grow up, get real jobs and leave us to our little corner of the world. Our contributions have dropped greatly, the number of questions asked usually is just around 100. Noting that, I’d say that there has got to be very few of us posting here, so it would be a very unhappy person to target such a small group. So sad … yet so bad for those of us that have so much to offer.
