I work in Labour & Delivery as an RN and we have staff nurses and we have charge nurses.
A charge nurse co-ordinates patient care and mostly deals with the doctors and other units. She does not take a patient load, instead she is there to assist with all the deliveries or to help out if a problem was to arise.
A staff nurse is a nurse that works on the unit, under the charge nurse.
Hope this helps!
