when caring for someone in a nursing environment? I have been told that one should put on gown, then gloves, and take them off gloves first, then gown. This seems backwards to me and counter-intuitive. can anyone help or provide links?

Infection control technique:
The order you mentioned is right. After thorough handwashing including scrubbing up to the elbows; don on gown then gloves. The reason for the gown first then gloves is to maintain sterility and avoid contamination. Then remove the soiled gloves before the gown;.otherwise you defeat the purpose of infection control. You want to avoid the germs from the soiled gloves from coming in contact with your body or clothing. Thus, the sequence makes sense.
