Hello Thomas
These days, becoming a registered nurse, RN, is often done at the community college level. There are 2 CCs in Louisiana with this program: Delgado CC in NOLA and Baton Rouge CC.
If you want to take it to a higher level and perhaps someday get into one of the nursing specialties such as nurse-anesthetist, you should consider getting a Bachelors in Nursing, a BSN. There are 15 4-year colleges that offer the BSN program:
Dillard
Grambling State
LSU-Alexandria
LSU Health Sciences Center in NOLA [your first choice, by far]
Louisiana Tech
Whew! Rather than listing them, here is the web address that lists each college. You can go to each website and see about entrance criteria, costs, and the like:

If you just can’t do it financially, talk to the Army recruiter about medic training guarantee. Then you will get a free ride plus housing and living expenses after you finish your 2 or 3 year commitment.
