My nursing intervention is..
“Nurse will use diversional activities and distraction measures (e.g., toys, play activities, watching television, radio) when appropriate.” (Axton & Fugate, 2003 p. 59)
Now I need a nursing rationale to go with that. I can’t find it in any of my nursing care plan books! If you don’t want to give it to me, at least give me some help. Thanks!
You could look at it a couple ways…developmentally or if the kid is in pain. Your intervention really should be individualized to the patient. For example, if you’re working with a 1 year old, radio may not be the best choice. If you’re working with a teenager, toys wouldn’t be as appropriate.
By the way, sometimes the “right” answer isn’t always in a book. Always think about why you’re doing what you’re doing. You’ll learn so much more if you know why you do things as opposed to just doing them because the book said so.
