Your patient is taking two 7.5 grain tablets every four hours. The maximum safe dosage is 4 grams in 24 hours. Is his dose safe?
And…
A patient has an IVPB of dextrose 1 Gm in 50 cc D5W to run over 20 min. The tubing has a drip factor of 10. How many drops per min?
(I got 25 drops on this last one but I wasn’t sure…)

I am a bit rusty when it comes to pharmacology conversions. I assume you are taking a class and not administering drugs to patients yet, as these are pretty basic conversion questions.
For the first question… here is what I did if I remember correctly:
7.5 gr / 1 * 60mg/ 1gr * 1 g/ 1000 mg = 0.45 grams x 6 times a day, which equals a total of 2.7 grams… which would make the dosage safe to my calculations.
You have to convert the grains to milligrams, and then the milligrams to grams. Then you have to multiply x 6 to equal the amount given for 24 hours.
For the second question:
I multiplied 50 ml x 10 drops / 20 minutes = 25 drops/minute
Hope that helps.
