1 Answer to “Nurses……. what are CEU’s and how do they work?”

CEUs are widely varied. They can be structured courses where you go sit in a classroom and take a test at the end or they may be articles from books or magazines that you test on after reading them. Some of them are offered by private companies or some may be one hour courses offered by your employer. A lot depends on what the specific requirements are in your state. When they first came out, Texas only allowed a certain percentage of them to come from non-classroom environments, but now they can all be non-class related. There are usually no restriction on topics as long as they apply to the health field in some way and the provider is certified to give CEU credits by the state. Sometimes, the state requires certain specific courses, like here you must complete CEUs on Hep C and Bioterrorism, but only once.
