Under US law, it is illegal for medical practioners to reveal client info, unless it is nessisary to the case.
Usually anyone working in a medical industry has to sign confidentiality agreements and should not be accessing files that aren’t relevant. I used to work at a gynaecologists and never accessed any records that I didn’t need to. It would be unethical and a breach of trust. I would presume most people in the health sector would be more concerned about doing their job than accessing records of people they’re not treating.
Your girlfriend has access to records on a “need to know basis” and if you aren’t coming in there currently as a patient or requesting your records, she “doesn’t need to know” and therefore has no business being near your physical file or looking it up on the computerized file.
It is a major HIPAA violation for your ex to look at any of your records since records are on a “need to know basis” and if she has no need to accessing your records, that facility could face a major violation fine!
