I just got my NJ RN license and i know that there are requirements for continuing education credits for us, but the website is confusing. If you are a NJ nurse can you help answer the following?
How many CEU’s/ contact hours do you need per year?
Is it per year or per 2 years since that is the renewal period?
Do we have to submit them or only if you get audited?
thanks

In May 2006, the New Jersey Board of Nursing adopted regulations which will require ongoing continuing education for nurses to maintain their licensure status. The regulations apply to all RNs and LPNs; there are no additional requirements for APNs beyond those biennial 30 contact hours already mandated. The regulations require a minimum of 30 contact hours for each 2 year licensure renewal period, and that all contact hours be “accredited.” Nurses whose licenses expired in May 2006 will need to meet the CE requirement by 2008. Nurses whose licenses expire in 2007 must meet the requirement by 2009.
