There may be some math on it and NO you can not use a calculator, unless the rules changed since I took it almost 13 yrs ago. Anywho, I did not think it was that bad and you can take it several times. I would sign up for a review class like KAPLAN if available in your area, or get a review book and take the practice questions. If you made it through RN school you are one smart hardworking person. I seem to remember many questions were common sense. Good Luck
the answerer above me took it 13 years ago, i took it a couple of years ago. the format for the test changed the year i took it. there is math on the test. you have to be able to calculate drug dosages. and for those answers there is no a, b, c, d answer you have to type it in. there is a calculator on the computer screen. plus they have diagrams were you have to use the computer mouse and point at for example the radial pulse, or the p wave on an ekg. they also have select all that applies. for example they will give you the name of a drug and list a bunch of side effects and you have to be able to correctly check all the side effects. i think the kaplan course will greatly prepare you for the exam. i found all the other review books a bit too easy. good luck
I found the test to be very challenging. I passed the first time in 75 q’s I had no math, but if you do there is an on-screen calculator. I had many select all that apply, and tons of med q’s. If you fail 3x’s; before you can take it again you’ll have to do some sort of mediation with the school before they will allow you to take it again.
I used the Saunders review book, and I bought a Kaplan test strategies book. I did at least 3500 practice questions before I took the NCLEX and it worked for me.
Good Luck to you!
SUPER HARD! IT IS THE HARDEST EXAM IN THE WORLD. SATAN INVENTED THIS EXAM THATS WHY ITS SO HARD.
YOU HAVE TO STUDY MORE THAN YOU THINK! AND YES YOU CAN USE A CALCULATOR! THEY WILL ALLOW YOU TO USE THE CALCULATOR AND A PAD TO WRITE YOUR NOTES IN.
AND THE MATH QUESTIONS IN THE EXAM ARE THE “LOW-LEVEL” QUESTIONS… IF YOU GET LOTS OF THESE, YOU ARE FAILING.
IF YOU DONT GET MATH QUESTIONS, MOST LIKELY MEANS YOU PASSED.
