Just wondering because I’ve heard alot of people debating over the quality of the Nursing Program at Everest. Some hate it some swear by it. I also heard that Dr’s and Hospital’s kinda chuckle when they here you graduated from there. Personally, I think a quality nurse will shine and excel no matter what the school. But was jus wondering if any people got decent employment after attending Everest. Oh yeah, Im thinking the Mclean, VA campus.

The problem with going through a program that is not accredited by the NLN or AACN is that any hospital that wants JCAHO accredidation will not hire you. There are minimum standards that are set for nursing programs by the NLN or AACN and if your school cannot even meet those, it’s not going to provide you with the education that hospitals are looking for in ensuring that their RN’s are adequately trained.
Here’s the link to see if the schools you are interested in are accredited:

OR

(Remember, Everest will likely be accredited by local agencies, but that’s irrelevant when it comes to JCAHO)
I know that an “easy to finish”program is quite appealing, especially when the community colleges have waiting lists for clinicals and the BSN programs seem exhaustive, but do you really want to spend the time and money on one of those “career schools” when the cost is nearly triple of a state university, the credits won’t transfer to other schools should you want a BSN, and most importantly, the fact you will most likely not be hired by any reputable medical facility?
As far as a “quality nurse shining and excelling”…yes, I think someone dedicated to wanting to be a nurse will be the best candidate for a job….but if she/he is that dedicated, they will want the best possible education and be smart enough to complete a program that is accredited by the agencies that matter when it comes to nursing.
Did you get a straight answer from the school on how much their program costs? We have a similar “school” in my area and the cost for their unaccredited “Associate Degree” program is more than earning a BSN, then getting an MSN at one of our state universities. That’s ridiculous!
Please avoid those private overly priced For-profit schools such as Everest, penn foster, ashworth, devry, U of P and others as they are merely out to “make a profit” (** and their course credits will most likely NOT transfer to other schools).
These consumer sites have A LOT of negative posts by former students about those private $$ for-profit schools including Everest, and please heed the students’ warnings:

Please instead consider the local community college or public/state university as long as the program is accredited within the industry.
