My husband is an EMT. He is currently serving overseas. I am a nurse and I have to renew my license every year and complete some CEU’s (continuing education.) I was wondering if EMT’s do the same. If so, do they need CEU’s as well and is there a fee? What is the website I can go to? I just need to know so it doesn’t lapse or anything. Thanks for your help.

Check with the State Licensing Bureau for your state. I think most licensing as well as other “officialize” type processes make allowance for people in the military. Good luck!
When I was a basic NREMT, I had to renew every two years. 48 CEUs (up to ten through tapes/reading) and a refresher course.
Yes you need to renew and do CE classes…. the length of time and how many credits needed vary by state. In my state (VA) its every 8 years, and we need at least 10 hours of CE. Look up the dept. of health website for whatever state he has it through, and go to the section of the website that handles emergency medical technician licensing. It should say it all there.
Every EMT will have to renew. The exact requirements will depend on whether he’s nationally registered or state licensed but it’s typically every 2 years. I’d be willing to be that he’s getting continuing education in the military and will have no trouble re-certifying when he gets back. You can check with the National Registry of EMTs or with your State’s Department of Health. Good luck.
