I would suggest that the best way to treat an abscess is with antibiotics.I had an abscess just last week.I went to my GP and he prescribed Amoxicillin and I have just finished the course and it has completely healed up.My gum is perfect now.I paid the dentist a visit and he wanted to extract it but told me to come back in two weeks time.I gathered that if it was urgent he would have done something there and then.I have since cancelled my appointment and I have saved my tooth.Do dentists know what they are doing especially NHS ones.If I was a private patient I think he would have handled it better. He has lost out because I have cancelled the appointment because I had to wait so long.Because I was anNHS patient he has even lost out on that. What is the logic behind this. He has ended up not collecting any payment just a fee for the check-up.Now in Thailand it would be a different story. You would be treated there and then at a fraction of the price you would pay in England.I will be in Thailand in a few weeks time for my check-up and cleaning of my teeth and I know I will not be taken for a ride. You wouldn’t beleive me if I told what the prices are there. Also my dentist is such a kind and gentle man and nothing is too much for him.

If you have an abscess then you will first need to be put on antibiotics to clear up the infection. Then you need to make a decision as to whether you want to keep the tooth and have a root canal done to remove the infected nerve or have the tooth extracted. If you don’t have ant treatment done on your tooth the infection will come back and it will be worse than before. The best option would be to have the root canal done to keep your tooth because if you extract the tooth then over time your other teeth will shift and move into the space so your bite will change. Root canals are not as painful as they use to be but people are still very scared of having them done but when you remove the infected nerve your tooth will feel so much better.
